My Lightning Bolt Faith

“The Voice of the Lord strikes with bolts of lightning.” Psalm 29:7 NLT

Psalm 29 is a melodic poem written by King David. It begins by encouraging the heavenly hosts to honor the Lord for His glory and strength. He tells how “the voice of the Lord,” or God reveals Himself through nature. His voice can be known through the power of thunder over the mighty waters and oceans. He describes the voice of the Lord as Powerful and Majestic like a raging storm plowing through the forests and tearing them up! His Voice strikes like bolts of lightning.

I WANTED TO KNOW THAT GOD WAS REAL

God Spoke to Me Through Nature As I began my Christian journey, God demonstrated His majestic Power to me at the age of nineteen. I wanted to know without any doubt that He was real. The following day, I closely observed a powerful rainstorm. It rained hard and thundered, but no lightning. That night, I ventured out onto the patio, overlooking the Narragansett Bay, to sing and pray. Suddenly, the thought crossed my mind, “Lightning! I could ask for lightning!” I knew that if God would put a small streak of lightning in the sky it would be all the proof I needed. I prayed, “Father, I ask You now to show me a sign of a streak of lightning with some loud crashing thunder.” To my amazement when I said the word “thunder,” at that exact moment a massive bolt of lightning flashed in a zig-zag fashion. The lightning crashed out of the sky and zapped the ocean! My eyes filled with tears in awe of what I saw. The Spirit of God felt close to me in such a miraculous way! I thanked and praised God with all my heart, and confessed that I would NEVER question His Presence again. This established my faith for a lifetime. I praise God that He knows our heart’s desire, and He hears us when we pray.

GOD IS MIGHTY AND POWERFUL

Have you ever needed your prayer answered? God is mighty and very powerful, and able to answer your prayer. You must repent of your sin, and approach Him as a child. He desires a personal relationship with you. Be encouraged today friend, and put your trust fully in God.

PRAY THIS PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, help my friend to believe and trust that You alone are God. You desire to make Yourself known to every individual in a very special way. Reveal Your Presence to my friend today Lord, because Your Word says that today is the day of salvation.
