My Parents Abandoned Me, but God is My True Father

“Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.” Psalm 27:10 (NLT)

King David wrote this Scripture as a proverbial expression, which may be interpreted figuratively rather than literally. He says that whenever you face heart-breaking circumstances, and you feel alone, rejected, or abandoned, God responds and begins working on your behalf. He will take you into His loving care and heal your brokenness. He will adopt you as His child. He will bring you relief during your most crushing moments of grief. Parental abandonment is one of the most traumatic of human sufferings. Yet, God relieves every emotion, no matter the depth of sorrow.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted

Most people experience heart-break at some point in life. Many know the anguish of crushing grief from rejection by our nearest and dearest, loneliness, or the death of a loved one. Unfortunately, Psalm 27:10 became very literal to me. My parents abandoned me. I was devastated. They damaged and wounded my soul. In a season of agonizing grief, I experienced the loving concern of my true Father. He never fails to hold me close. He proves Himself loyal and trust-worthy. Despite David’s psalm becoming literal for me, this verse is for everyone! It’s for the ones who feel orphaned, the motherless, the fatherless, the widowed, and those wounded in soul and spirit. God is especially near to you. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” He cares deeply for you and He understands the pain you suffer. He wants to draw you closer to Himself. Let Him console you. Let him receive you. Give your heart to God, and He will bless and reward you. Give Him first place in your heart. God promises to never leave you. He is with you even in your darkest, most painful hours. He will give you rest and carry your burdens. Through my pain, I have learned to trust Him, and with Faith you can do the same.

God tells us throughout Scripture that He will never leave us, nor forsake us. He is especially near to you when you feel hopeless, alone, abandoned, afraid, in deep grief, emotionally wrecked, and even near to death. Cry out to Him and ask Him to apply His healing balm to your wounds.

Pray this prayer

Dear God, you know everything. You are Omniscient. You know every heartache, every grief, and every sorrow I experience. Help me to know that You are near, especially in my most painful hours. I thank You, and praise You for this. In Jesus Name, I pray. Amen.
