This Little Light of Mine
“Let your light shine before men in such a way they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

WE ARE THE LIGHT!
In the “Sermon on the Mount” in Matthew chapter 5, Jesus sat down to teach. The disciples, followers of Christ, and perhaps someone like you and me gathered around to hear what Jesus had to say. His message was clear and is as relevant now as it was then. We are the light! We need to let our light shine.
THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE
For the past month my three-year-old son will randomly start singing, “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.” It is the cutest thing to hear. Yet, I can’t help but wonder if he understands what he is singing. If my son is going to fully learn, that understanding starts with me. I’ll be the first to admit, as a teen I wasn’t the nicest person. However, like most things in life, over time my heart changed. God changed me. The light that was always there began to shine and it showed. Most importantly, I know if I want others to see Christ in me, I need to let Him shine in my words and my actions. One of the biggest mistakes we make as Christians is thinking because we serve in ministry, pay our tithes, or look the part of a “Christian” that our attitudes towards towards people make the difference between bringing someone to God or pushing them away.
IMPROVE YOUR SHINE FOR JESUS
Gandhi, an Indian lawyer and political ethicist once said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” What change do you want to make? Who do you come into contact with daily and do they see Jesus in you? I encourage you to examine your life daily and see where you can improve your shine for Jesus.
PRAY THIS PRAYER
Lord, I am far from perfect. You see me for who I am and love me anyways. Thank You for paying the ultimate price and dying for a sinner like me. Help me in the areas I struggle daily. Don’t ever let me forget You not only died for me, but for the ones I don’t even know yet. Let Your light shine through me every day and shine brighter on my darkest days. Thank You Lord for loving a wreck like me. Amen.
